2010 FIFA World Cup,

If you’re living in the same world as I am, you have probably heard what’s the big happening now. Right now, people from all over the world are having great fun, because of the 2010 FIFA World Cup.

If you know me, then you’re probably a bit surprised to see me writing about this and being positive about it. (Well, positive and positive; my dignity and trust in my own guessing skills aren’t quite the same.)

But here I am, writing about this huge football tournament, of all things. I usually don’t follow the matches and engage in what the results are, and usually I’m quite bored by everything and everyone that mentions football – except if someone’s saying handball>football, of course. (Because it’s true, and you know it. At least, you should know it.)

Why, you ask? Because I’ve done this stupid thing. Really really stupid, and I know I shouldn’t have done it because I knew it would end up like this.

So. You might know that I am a member and frequent visitor to www.cosforums.com. If not, you do now. And several of the other members on CoS Forums are quite interested in football (andmayyoursoulbesavedifyoucallitsoccer), and therefore, in the Sports forum, you can now find the subforum Round Ball. Kick With Feet. Guess what that’s about?

Oh yes, the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Yay, yay, and hooray. Anyway, one day I saw this link in someone’s signature (Awesome Link, Click With Mouse it said), and I clickied. And came to a game thread in the forum Round Ball. Kick With Feet. A prediction game.

And that is how it all started. I read through the rules, noticed that those with little or no knowledge of football could enter (as it mostly comes down to luck in the end, anyway), and registered that I had an hour or so where I had no idea of what to do with my time. So I thought, why not?

I can give you several reasons why not. And I thought of them back then, but only in my subconsiousness, as a shout of sense and what I should do. But my mind didn’t want to listen to my subconsiousness, and the fun-area of my brain thought “hey, games are fun, predictions are fun, football is great fun, lets do it!” And I started writing down what I thought the results would be for the first three days of the tournament. I found myself following eagerly when the matches started, cheering when South Africa scored, and booing when I discovered the match had ended 1-1 after all. I was angry with England when they managed to end their match against USA with a draw, and I cheered (VERY loudly) when I found out I’d gotten my first point in the Prediction Game, for guessing the winner of the match between Germany and Australia.

Now you know how my last days, that should’ve been spent looking forward to the summer holidays, have been centred around football. All because of a small allons-y, slughead! from the fun-addicted part of my brain.

In a couple of minutes, the next match starts. Netherlands HAS to win 2-0 over Denmark, so I can get my first three-pointer.

Goodbye, last tiny little microscopic rest of sanity.
